Region Track: Area athletes compete in meets at Clark, De Smet and Britton

CLARK — Milbank continued its winning streaks Thursday in the Region 1A high school track and field meet.

Nine schools competed. The Bulldogs scored 224.5 and won the boys division for the sixth-straight time and also won their third consecutive girls division title with 201.5 points.

Bennett Schwenn won the boys' 100- and 200-meter dashes and the long jump and also ran on the winning 1,600 relay for Milbank's boys. The relay also included Kaden Krause, Nick Batchelor and Garrett Mertens. 

Max Lightfield (110 and 300 hurdles), Nick Batchelor (1,600 run), James Batchelor (3,200 run)and Ryker Trevett (shot put) also won events for Milbank's boys.

Ashlynn Batchelor won the 800 run and Amelia Pederson the discus for Milbank's girls, who also won the 400 (Laney Forrette, Jacy Dexter, Addisyn Krause and Siera Wenzl) and 800 (Forrette, Isabella Anderson, Maurina Street and Wenzl) relays.

Drew Reetz of Webster Area won the 400 dash and pole vault and ran on the winning 800 relay in boys division. Carson Mount, Brent Bearman and Gavin Witt joined Reetz on relay.

Other area boys division winners included Chase Kelly of Florence-Henry (discus), Kolby Haubris of Dakota Hills (high jump) and Jaydon Keller of Webster Area (triple jump). Jack Helkenn, Emmerson Larson, Trey Huber and Wyatt Anderson won the medley relay for Clark-Willow Lake.

Other area girls division winners included Madison Zirbel of Dakota Hills (1,600 and 3,200 runs), Sara Thonvold of Clark-Willow Lake (100 hurdles), Rylie Huff of Sisseton (300 hurdles), Caylin Kelly  of Florence-Henry (shot put) and Erin Case of Webster Area (pole vault).

Clark-Willow Lake won the medley relay with Kayla Jordan, Musonda Kabwe, Cadence Bochek and Kelsey Hofer and Florence-Henry the 3,200 relay with Trinity Watson, Griffyn Muller, Brooke Hlavacek and Taylor Watson.

Region 3B

De SMET — Sadie Johnson of Estelline-Hendricks won four individual events Thursday in the Region 3B meet.

Johnson won the girls' 300-meter hurdles, pole vault and long and triple jumps.

Other area event winners in the girls division included Mackenzie Everson of Castlewood (200 and 400 dashes), Hadley Carlson of Arlington (100 hurdles and high jump), Danielle Hawley of Estelline-Hendricks (shot put) and Kaelyn Ulschmid of Arlington (3,200 run). 

Arlington won the 400 relay with Harley Johnson, Halley Miller, Isabelle Steffensen and Addie Steffensen.

Castlewood won the 400 (Logan Eng, Quincy Thu, Kegan Tvedt and Jaron Tharaldsen), 800 (Eng, Jeremiah Wiersma, Kegan Tvedt and Tharaldsen), 1,600 (Paul Everson, Lane Tvedt, Kegan Tvedt and Tharaldsen) and medley (Eng, Wiermsa, Jackson Schofield and Brock Gisselbeck) relays in the boys division.

Tharaldsen also won the 400 dash. Other area event winners in the boys division included Mattix Hausman (800 run, Camden Hobbs (300 hurdles) and Jon Nefzger (shot put and discus) of Estelline-Hendricks and Kadyn Fast of De Smet (triple jump).

Wolsey-Wessington swept the team titles in the nine-school meet, winning the boys division with 136.5 points and repeating as the girls division champion with 136.5.

Region 1B

BRITTON — Three Tri-State athletes won individual-event titles Thursday in the Region 2B meet.

Tri-State event winners included Kadee Davidson (girls' discus), Morgan Navratil (girls' triple jump) and Kaleb Foltz (boys' 1,600-meter run).

Nine schools competed in the meet. Northwestern won the girls division with 143 points and Aberdeen Roncalli the boys division with 152.
