PENSACOLA, Fla. -- A Nebraska man caused thousands of dollars in damages when he broke into a Pensacola Beach business early Thursday morning.
Escambia County deputies arrested 26-year-old Nathan Dondlinger at Glow Paddle. He was caught on surveillance cameras trashing the place.
Dondlinger actually called the business Thursday afternoon to apologize while our Channel 3 was there to interview one of the owners.
Dondlinger also called to get his cell phone back after apparently he left it at the business Wednesday night.
Dondlinger was caught on surveillance camera ran-sacking the business causing over $10,000 in damages.
Channel 3 witnessed Dondlinger call the business to apologize after he was bonded out of Escambia County Jail.
"I am seriously sorry for the damage I've done to the property," Dondlinger said.
- Channel 3: "Can I ask you also why you did this?"
- Dondlinger: "Going through hard times, I was under the influence of alcohol of course and blacked out."
Dondlinger's rampage began inside the Glow Paddle office trailer before 3 a.m.
Anything he saw he destroyed according to co-owner Matt Powell.
Powell took cell phone video Thursday morning of the parking lot. Everything that was in the trailer was on the ground -- damaged or destroyed.
"He took everything inside the shack and threw it out the door," Powell said.
Dondlinger knocked over the portable bathroom and tried to break into the trailer. Powell says he also urinated on a batch of glow paddle shirts.
Surveillance video then shows Dondlinger walking to the dock, where he somehow got a hold of a raft underneath.
Dondlinger apparently stole some glow paddle gear.
"He's wearing a glow paddle jacket and one of our lifeguard hats," Powell said.
Channel 3 spoke to Powell about Dondlinger's apology Thursday afternoon.
"He said 'how do I get my phone back' and he kind of laughed and said maybe this will get you more business," Dondlinger said.
A short time later, Dondlinger's grandfather arrived to get the phone back for his grandson.
"We're just not gonna let this thing win," Powell said. "We are open tonight."
Dondlinger was charged with burglary and felony mischief. On that phone call he made, Dondlinger promised the owners he would pay for all the damages.
