Boys lacrosse falls to 12-7 to Sandwich

(May 19, 2022) The boys lacrosse team battled back in the second half following a difficult second quarter that saw the Whalers outscored 4-0, but they ultimately fell 12-7 to top-ranked Sandwich at home Thursday.

Following a relatively even opening quarter the Blue Knights dominated possession and scored just seconds before the first half ended and less than a minute into the third quarter before the Whalers went on a run to cut the deficit to four.

Jack Halik led Nantucket (6-7) with four goals and Makai Bodden, Colton Chambers and Hudson Perry each added one. Sean Murphy stepped in to play goalie with starter George Boucher out and made six saves, including a pair in the fourth quarter to keep the Whalers within four at the time.

“I think what killed us today was their ride,” coach Sean Aloisi said. “We could’t clear, we couldn’t get out of our end and George being out was a big part of it but Sean was awesome.”

Nantucket will face another tough challenge when it returns to action Tuesday on the road against Nauset, who beat the Whalers 15-10 on-island two weeks ago.
