Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Kimberly Hart-Simpson has spoken about the big moment that her character Nicky Wheatley declares her love for Daniel Osbourne.

Friday's episode (May 20) sees Nicky lay her heart on the line as she tells Daniel that she'd like them to have a future together.

Nicky denied having a romantic interest in Daniel when she returned to the cobbles in March. However, with Daniel now single after splitting from Daisy Midgeley, Nicky seizes her chance.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media about Nicky's decision, Kimberly explained: "I don't think Nicky necessarily thinks she's better for Daniel than Daisy – there's just more common ground. They're both parents and they have similar maturity levels.

"Nicky also met Daniel when he was at his most vulnerable. She has seen him warts and all, and she still likes him. There's a mutual respect and there was obviously a sexual chemistry at one point.

"Nicky initially came back to say 'thank you' to Daniel and show that she had turned her life around. But she now sees that pre-made, packaged family for her, Maisie, Daniel and Bertie.

"We've got to remember that Nicky has been deprived of that family picture. She wants that companionship and security. She looks at it right now and it looks like a postcard – she wants to get to that destination. That's what she sees.

"Whether Daniel is the right person for Nicky, we don't know, but he's the closest thing she'd had to it in years and of course she's going to gravitate towards that."

She continued: "I think the turning point is in Friday's episode. We've seen these little moments where Nicky is locking eyes at Daniel. Even though she respects Daisy and her situation with Daniel, we can all see that it has become very fragile and frosty.

"Nicky feels she should shoot her shot. She's much more at peace with her feelings, whereas Daisy is all over the place.

"It's not pre-empted. Nicky didn't come back to Weatherfield to get Daniel back, but they're both together in this home and it flows well. The routine flows, it feels nice, Maisie is happy and maybe this could work.

"Nicky's dream future is to stay in Daniel's flat, make a go of it, live happily ever after, and maybe try and get back into teaching."

Coronation Street bosses aren't revealing Daniel's response to Nicky until Friday's episode airs.

Asked about potential drama with Daisy if Daniel does decide to move on with Nicky, Kimberly said: "I think Nicky can negotiate things with Daisy. Nicky is a feisty woman, so she'll be sound and she'll want Daisy to find love herself.

"Nicky won't be wishing any hard feelings. She probably won't go to the pub for a bit, but that will soon pass as everyone has to go to the pub!

"It could work out. Crazier things have happened on the street, so I think Nicky and Daisy would work it out eventually. People can't move on until they find the right person sometimes and I believe that will be the case with Daisy."

On Nicky's reaction if Daniel turns her down, Kimberly added: "She'd find it hard because it's not just about losing Daniel, it's about losing the picture postcard that I mentioned earlier.

"Nicky would be homeless and Maisie's life would be interrupted again. It feels good to be with Daniel – and she's still got no job. It'd be back to square one.

"I think Nicky and Daniel are a good match. Daniel needs some stability himself. I think he's had a few women now – he's like Casanova, isn't he?

"I just think what Daniel needs is stability and routine – and Nicky is the best one for that. But whether Daniel wants that or an exciting life, that's the question. Whatever road he goes down will determine the rest of his life for years. Does he want to go to a theme park or does he want a picnic?"

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
