The New York Mets pulled off a clutch, extra-innings win at Citi Field Thursday afternoon against the St. Louis Cardinals. Pete Alonso brought home the win with a two-run homer in the 10th inning.

Alonso gave the fans what they wanted not only during but after the game as well. He directed two “LFGM” to the stands during his postgame interview on the field.

SNY tweeted Alonso's exciting interview Thursday afternoon.

The Mets first baseman explained what went through his mind during the clutch at-bat, facing off against Cardinals relief pitcher Giovanny Gallegos.

“I was just looking in my zone and my zone only, and he came in there and thankfully I capitalized…It's absolutely electric.”

But how did they do it? How do the Mets manage to pull off such remarkable, late-game wins?

“We're just a bunch of tough, gritty guys and we're extremely resilient and we do what it takes every single day,” Alonso explained.

He then addressed the Mets' success early on in the season. “It's just really exciting to be playing this well at the beginning of the year.” With this win, the Mets are now 26-14 in their first 40 games.

However, Alonso made it very clear that the team's mission is far from over. “We've got one goal in mind,” he said, alluding to the World Series. If Max Scherzer and Jacob DeGrom can get healthy, they have a good chance of winning the championship this fall.
