A deputy with the Washington County, Ohio, Sheriff’s Office shot and killed a suspect after a pursuit and crash.
The incident happened about 4 a.m. Thursday after a deputy made a traffic stop on state Route 339 near Barlow, Chief Deputy Mark Warden said.
Warden said the person who was stopped fled in a vehicle on state Route 339 for three or four miles and the struck a northbound pickup truck.
The suspect's vehicle went off the side of the road near Millbranch Road and came to rest in a ditch. When the deputy approached the vehicle, Warden said, the contact with the suspect was threatening, forcing the deputy to shoot the suspect.
Warden said the suspect, whose name has not been released, died from his injuries.
Under department policy, the deputy is on administrative leave pending the investigation.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) will conduct an investigation after a request by the sheriff's office.
BCI said it can't eleborate yet on what threat the deputy faced during the incident.
