Court records indicated Thursday prosecutors in Kalamazoo County issued an arrest warrant May 12 for a man accused of fatally stabbing a Portage father and son in January.
Probable cause documents obtained by News Channel 3 show Nathaniel Doyle is being charged with two counts of manslaughter.
Those same documents detail the stabbing incident. They say Doyle pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed Maurice and Xavier Pearson while they were beating him on the ground.
The victim's family claims it was never kept up up to date on issued warrants or potential charges to the suspect, they said in a news conference Thursday.
Kalamazoo County prosecutor, Jeff Getting, said that is normal protocol.
"I understand the frustration and I can see where victim's families are coming from here, but the prosecutors office does not, will not, can't comment on cases where we've authorized charges but a person hasn't been arrested, taken into custody and then arraigned," he said.
