The New York Giants chose not to exercise Daniel Jones' fifth-year option. The news broke just hours before the 2022 NFL Draft back in April. Now, over a month later, the quarterback discussed the situation with the media.

Jones spoke to the media Thursday from the Giants OTAs. During his media availability, he responded to a question regarding the decision, saying “It is what it is.”

He said that the decision was “out of my control, out of my hands and that's the business part of it…My job is to prepare to play as well as I can, help the team win games. And that's certainly what I'm focused on right now.”

When asked how he is going to prove that he is the Giants' franchise quarterback, Jones said that that isn't his goal for the upcoming season.

“It's more about winning games and knowing that if we win games and we have a good season, then that should take care of a lot of things for everyone.”

Despite not getting the one-year extension, Jones isn't thrown off of his game. He has unwavering confidence in himself and his team, as well as a steadfast goal to win football games.

“I'm certainly confident in myself. I'm confident in the team we have…We've got to focus on what we're doing now.”

The upcoming season is Jones' time to shine. Without much competition in the Giants' quarterback room, he'll have every opportunity to prove himself worthy of the franchise quarterback title.
