WLKY News awarded regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Breaking News
WLKY News has been honored with the regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Breaking News. This Breaking News honor recognizes WLKY's overnight and morning coverage of the devastating tornadoes that hit Western Kentucky in December 2021. "As Jay (Cardosi) was tracking the storms, and the destruction was unfolding, it became apparent how critical our continuous coverage was," said News Director Andrea Stahlman. "I am honored to see our team recognized in this way. However, nothing compares to the dozens of emails we received from people who told us our coverage saved lives." WLKY remained on the air for 12 straight hours tracking the devastating storms and providing critical information to not only the immediate viewing area but also to storm victims in the direct path of the tornadoes who were accessing the coverage on digital platforms. WLKY is honored to serve the many communities across our viewing area and thankful to our viewers who depend on us as a trusted source of information. The Edward R. Murrow Awards are given by the Radio Television Digital News Association. The Murrow Awards are the embodiment of the values, and principles set forth by Edward R. Murrow, a journalism pioneer who set the standards for the highest quality of broadcast journalism.Region 8 includes televisions stations in Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and West Virginia.
