Pittsburgh City Council held a public hearing Thursday over an ordinance that would bring more regulations to AirBnB rentals in Pittsburgh.
At a hearing Thursday, local property owners and concerned citizens spoke out against and in support of the ordinance that hopes to crack down on short-term property rentals.
Bob Cranmer owns a traditional Bed and Breakfast in Pittsburgh, and says he had to jump through several hoops that AirBNBs, many of which are owned by large companies, do not.
“A large part of the funding for the stadiums and the convention center is the hotel/motel tax. If you have hundreds of AirBNBs not paying hotel/motel tax, that’s a lot of money.”
Opponents of the ordinance says that it attacks small business owners who own a more limited amount of properties.
