Austria’s Bregenzer Festspiele has appointed Enrique Mazzola to the newly created position of conductor in residence.

The festival noted that Mazzola will conduct “Ernani” in the Festspielhaus in 2023 and “Der Freischütz” on the Lake Stage in 2024.

Mazzola made his debut at the festival in 2016 and returned in 2017 with “Mosè in Egitto” as well as an orchestral concert. He made his Seebühne debut in 2019 with the premiere of “Rigoletto.”

Mazzola is currently conducting a new production of “Anna Bolena” at the Dutch National Opera and is set to conduct a production of “Madama Butterfly” at the Bregenz Festival this summer. He is the Music Director of the Lyric Opera Chicago and Principal Guest Conductor at Deutsche Oper Berlin.
