Charleston – The only things that can slow Jacorian Green down are seemingly the three first-place medals he left Charleston with on Thursday.
The Bluefield senior got off the quick start in the Class AA 200-meter state championship, defending his title and closing his career with a new personal record of 22.49 seconds at Laidley Field.
Green, having won titles earlier in the day as the anchor for the 4×100 and 4×200-meter relay teams, had more than enough left in the tank to defend his individual title, coasting to the finish line.

In-between the bouts of success though he fell in 100-meter dash after having the best qualifying time on Wednesday in part due to an issue he’s been working on improving all season. The break between events allowed him to get the start he wanted.
“I’ve been working all year on getting my blocks right,” Green said. “It didn’t come out the way I wanted in the 100 but in the 200 I got better and I won the race and that feels great. Just coming out and defending my championship. It’s my last year running track so I knew I had to go out and give it everything I’ve got.”
Green’s no stranger to success on the statewide level. He’s been a part of three Class AA state runner-up teams in football, earning a first-team all-state selection at receiver this past season. That coupled with last year’s 200-meter title made Green comfortable on Thursday’s stage, though it wasn’t one he ever thought he’d stand on.
“It’s been a great feeling,” Green said. “I didn’t think I’d like or even run track at first but I decided to do it to help me get better at football. When I started running I actually liked it a lot so I’m glad I ended up running track.”
Reflecting on his career, Green admits the gap between his two passions – football and track – has closed, but one sits ahead of the other.
“I think I prefer football more, but track’s right there with it,” Green smiled.
