Keith Hernandez thought Jets quarterback Zach Wilson was a fan of one of his former teammates, but he forgot the two share the same last name.
Wilson had a seat right behind home plate for the Mets series finale against the Cardinals, rocking a home jersey that had “Wilson” stitched on the back. Hernandez, perhaps briefly forgetting Wilson’s last name, thought it was a Mookie Wilson jersey.
“Ahh, he likes the Mook!” Keith said with enthusiasm.
Gary Cohen and Ron Darling couldn’t help but chuckle in the booth, as Gary replied, “Keith, either that, or it’s his own name.”
“Oh!” Keith replied. “Well, I didn’t see the number.”
The number was concealed by the seatback of Wilson’s seat behind the plate, but it’s very likely it wasn’t a Mookie Wilson jersey.
