Following up on reports of a possible second body in the Leaf River near the Highway 590 bridge, the Jones County Sheriff's Department and other agencies are conducting searches of the area.
"The Jones County Sheriff's Department has been following up on the leads most of this morning and into the afternoon on a body supposedly in the Leaf River," said Jones County Sheriff's Department Administrator Lance Chancellor. "Supposedly, the second body was dropped in at the same time as Brittany Nicole Holifield's body was on Sunday."
Chancellor said over 30 calls from different people claiming to have seen an unidentified black male in the river.
"We've received numerous calls to CrimeStoppers and Sheriff Joe Berlin of a [possible] second body," said Chancellor. "No caller seems to know a name. They just state there’s a second body in the water related to the Brittany Nicole Holifield alleged murder by Marty Breazeale.”
No second body has been discovered from the search at this time.
"We conducted search operations today," said Chancellor. "We're currently conducting surface water searches, underwater searches with the Jones County Search and Recovery Dive Team, and ground team searches along the bank.
"So far, nothing has been found. We have investigators fanned out all over the area."
