Sixers can still have a first-round pick in 2022 NBA draft; it depends on Nets

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The lottery for the 2022 NBA draft was decided on Tuesday: The Orlando Magic earned the No. 1 pick in the draft scheduled to take place on June 23 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

At the moment, the Philadelphia 76ers do not have a draft pick. They traded their first-rounder to the Brooklyn Nets in the deal to acquire James Harden. However, there is still a chance the Sixers can have a pick in the upcoming draft.

It will depend on the Nets. The Sixers sent an unprotected 2022 first-round pick to the Nets as part of the deal, but Brooklyn has the option of delaying that pick until 2023. The Nets have until June 1 to make that decision.

This year, the pick is the 23rd. Among the players that are likely to be available at that point and who could make a difference for the Sixers are Wendell Moore Jr. out of Duke, Jaden Hardy from G League Ignite and Christian Braun from Kansas.

The Sixers need help on the wings, so if the Nets delay the pick until 2023, there are a number of wings in this draft that can help Philadelphia.
