New England Patriots chairman Robert Kraft walked away from the Sports Business Journal’s annual awards ceremony in New York with two things: a lifetime achievement award and a zinger from an old rival.
Kraft was honored at Wednesday night’s ceremony in New York for his year of community outreach efforts during his decades as the head of the franchise in New England.
But amid all the praise and accolades, Eli Manning popped up to roast Kraft a little bit.
“My mom Olivia sends her apologies. She said that if it weren’t for her that Bob Kraft would have at least 10 Super Bowls,” Manning said at the podium at the Sports Business Journal awards ceremony.
According to the Boston Globe, Manning also mentioned that Kraft sent him a hand-written note congratulating him after his Giants’ first Super Bowl win over the Patriots at the end of the 2007 season.
The Patriots have won six Super Bowl titles since Kraft purchased the franchise in 1994. The team also lost three Super Bowls during that time, two of which were to Manning’s Giants.
The Patriots also had playoff runs ended by Eli’s brother Peyton on multiple occasions in the AFC Championship Game. The Patriots lost to Peyton Manning’s Colts in the 2006 conference title game and were knocked out by his Broncos one game away from the Super Bowl in 2013 and 2015 as well.
That’s six Super Bowl wins and five playoff losses to Olivia Manning’s sons, putting Eli Manning’s projection of “at least 10 Super Bowls” right on point.
