AOC shows off ring on engagement finger for the first time as she appears with Puerto Rico governor after long-term boyfriend Riley Roberts proposes

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was seen sporting her new engagement ring during an appearance with the governor of Puerto Rico.

Thursday's meeting, which aimed to push the U.S. to respect the Puerto Rico's right to self-government, marks the first time AOC has publicly shown off her new bling.

The 32-year-old Squad member confirmed to Insider that her longtime boyfriend, marketing professional Riley Roberts, has popped the question, and she has accepted. She then tweeted: 'It's true! Thank you all for the well wishes'. 

AOC met Roberts when they were both undergraduates at Boston University.

While AOC has risen to become one of the most prominent progressive Democrats in Congress, Roberts has maintained a low profile.

He attended the Met Gala in 2021 when AOC wore the infamous 'Tax the Rich' dress and has appeared in her Instagram videos. 

During the meeting with Governor Pedro Pierluisi, the congresswoman, in support of the Puerto Rico Status Act, said officials were working to ensure that Puerto Ricans can determine their own future.

'We are here to finally end second-class citizenship of Puerto Ricans in the United States,' she said Thursday.

The Puerto Rico Status Act would honor a decolonization process where the territory's residents could elect to choose their status.

Rep. Jenniffer González, who represents the territory, called it a 'historic day for Puerto Rico's future.' 

'After months of sincere discussions and negotiations, we can proudly announce that we have reached an agreement on a path forward to solve once and for all the Island's political status dilemma,' she tweeted. 

Earlier Thursday, AOC said on Instagram that she had been 'MIA' for a non-COVID 'health issue.' 

She tested positive after a highly-publicized trip to Miami over the New Year where she partied with drag stars and drank cocktails with Roberts outside. 

'I'm back at it today, but was MIA for a bit to recover,' she wrote on her story. 'Just wanted to provide you all some assurance that the silence wasn't political or anything as I know that worried some.'

AOC shared a bizarre video of her boyfriend's feet after the Miami trip because she believed Republicans were 'obsessed' with them.

'So we recently went to Florida, where Republicans developed an obsession with Riley's feet,' Rep. Ocasio-Cortez said in the video, as she panned the camera down to his shoes as he walked ahead of her in an apparent parking garage.

She added, shouting: 'So give the people what they want!'

The video references comments made over the weekend by conservatives who slammed the Democratic socialist representative for partying maskless in restriction-free Florida and enjoying cocktails and sushi with Roberts.

Roberts was snapped wearing a pair of Birkenstocks with bare feet, prompting jokes from Republicans, and subsequent backlash from AOC who accused conservative tweeter Steve Cortes of being sexually frustrated.

Social media users first accused AOC of 'frolicking in free Florida' while her home state enforced mask mandates, after her Miami lunch date with her boyfriend on December 30.

'AOC is STILL lounging it up in Florida, in large crowds and maskless. This time at a Drag Queen bar in Miami. Rules for thee but not for me,' wrote right wing journalist Brendon Leslie.

'For those of you with zero sense of humor: the whole point of this post is to expose hypocrisy. We don't actually care she's maskless. We care she fear mongers about Florida but then has the audacity to vacation here,' he added.

'AOC was spotted partying in a bar maskless in the great free state of Florida. Absolute hypocrite,' tweeted Twitter account Libs of TikTok.

Hitting back, Ocasio-Cortez tweeted: 'If Republicans are mad they can't date me they can just say that instead of projecting their sexual frustrations onto my boyfriend's feet. Ya creepy weirdos.'

'It's starting to get old ignoring the very obvious, strange, and deranged sexual frustrations that underpin the Republican fixation on me, women,& LGBT+ people in general.'

She added: 'These people clearly need therapy, won't do it, and use politics as their outlet instead. It's really weird.'
