A traffic stop in St. Tammany Parish resulted in the confiscation of over 12 gallons of illegally spiked cough syrup on Monday.

Two cars that seemed to be traveling together were both stopped on I-12 near Covington. But after the first car was released to continue on its journey, which its passengers said was to Houston, with only minor traffic citations, the second car warranted further investigation.

After that car’s driver refused to consent to a search, K-9 units were dispatched to the site and detected narcotics, leading to officers finding 97 bottles of promethazine hydrochloride, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.
