Giancarlo Stanton saw the new-look Camden Yards hold in what would have otherwise been a sure home run, so he made sure to hit it a big farther his next time up.
Three innings after banging a long single off the left field wall, the Yankee slugger drilled a solo shot 392 feet down the left field line and just inside the foul pole to become the first visiting player to clear the left field wall at Camden Yards this season, the first since the left field wall was raised and moved back 26 feet.
Stanton’s single in the top of the first, which drove in two and came off the bat at 114 mph, would have been a home run in every other ballpark, and his second hit of the day would have been out of all 30 parks.
His solo homer also put him back in the big-league lead with 35 RBI, just minutes after Mets first baseman Pete Alonso tied him with an RBI single against the Cardinals.
