The Kanawha County Board of Canvassers will hold a special meeting Tuesday after two candidates in races for Charleston’s City Council have requested recounts.
The Kanawha County Commission, which acts as the board of canvassers, is scheduled to meet Tuesday at 7 a.m. at the Voter’s Registration Office to recount ballots, according to a news release from the commission.
Democrat Robert Sheets, an incumbent in Ward 8, has requested a recount of ballots from two precincts after initial results had him falling to Kathy Rubio by one vote.
In the Democrat city council at-large race, Corey Zinn is requesting a recount of 22 precincts after finishing seventh, 19 votes behind Shawn Taylor in sixth. The top six vote-getters in the primary move on to the general election this fall.
The requested recounts are expected to be discussed at Thursday night’s commission meeting which is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
