Dale Wayne Whitley

ROCKINGHAM — Dale Wayne Whitley, 69, of Rockingham, passed away Monday, May 16, 2022 at his home.

He was born Oct. 7, 1953 in Richmond County, a son of William and Clementine Webb Whitley.

Mr. Whitley was graduate of Rohanen High School and attended Richmond Technical College. Wayne worked alongside his daddy for 44 years at Whitley Auto Sales. After he retired, he became the pastor at the Church of God of Prophecy in Wadesboro.

Wayne married Jackie Brown right out of high school; Jackie was the love of his life. They just celebrated 50 years of marriage this past December. They commemorated this momentous occasion by traveling to their favorite places including Gatlinburg and the beach where they shared some of the best times of their love-filled 50 years.

Wayne always put God first and then his family. The Whitley family spent most holidays all together and often vacationed together in the mountains and at the beach.

Wayne was his mama’s heart and his sister’s favorite jokester. He made sport of tricking his sister into doing his chores and enjoyed spending time playing golf with his daddy. Wayne later shared that love of golf with his children, Jamie and Brooke, and they both love the game to this day. In later years, he was blessed with three grandsons that he loved dearly. Watching all the children play ball was one of his favorite pastimes. He was the best papa, father, husband and man of God you could ask for.
