New inmate telephone services with Tablet Access approved for Ashland County Jail

ASHLAND - Ashland County Sheriff's Office Capt. Joe Perry and Chief Deputy David Blake spoke Thursday to the Ashland County Commissioners on a secure inmate communications package that will offer valuable services to inmates at the Ashland County Jail.

The agreement with Inmate Calling Solutions, dba IC Solutions will allow tablet access for inmates and will extend the current agreement to Aug. 31, 2027.

The agreement will allow for increased family communication, self-improvement opportunities (education, vocation, etc.) and other key areas. There will be no public internet access available as the program connects with an existing ICSolutions-managed network.

Hillsdale government teacher Doug Shonk brought 20 high school students to the meeting as part of the learning curriculum. The students asked the commissioners a few questions about government procedures before the meeting began.

Shanna Schlabach, senior casework manager for Congressman Bob Gibbs spoke to the students on some of the job duties of Gibbs and his part in committees in Washington and a brief background on his career.

A fourth advertising to accept bids for a Portable Radial Stacking Conveyor for the County Highway Department will go until 9:15 a.m. on June 9. County Engineer Ed Meixner said the new estimate for the conveyor is $270,000.

Commissioners approved and entered into a contract with Advanced Concepts, Inc for the Courthouse Window Replacement Project in the amount of $337,000. The completion date is set for Sept. 30 with funds coming from the American Rescue Plan Act.

A grant amendment for 2022 State of Ohio, Department of Youth Services, Youth Subsidy Grant was authorized. The authorization was requested by Ashland County Juvenile Judge Karen Desanto-Kellogg.

Mental Health & Recovery Board has four re-appointments

Nancy Udolph, Connie Butler, Chad Brown and Cindy Kyser were all re-appointed to the MH&RB for a four-year term beginning July 1, 2022 and ending June 30, 2026.

Brenda Bub of Job & Family Services was appointed to the Northeastern Regional Prevention Council with a term from April 1, 2022 to April 30, 2024.

Appropriations were made to Solid Waste, Dale-Roy and the Board of Elections and transfers were made to Soil & Water and Juvenile Felony Custody.

Commissioners authorized the County Solid Waste Management District to assume control and operating expenses for the scrap tire voucher program and to issue agreements with participating tire collection and tire voucher distribution sites.

Recorder Michal Crow was approved to travel to Chillicothe for the Ohio Recorder’s Association Meeting from June 12-15 at a cost of $650.
