Western Pennsylvania teacher accused of having inappropriate relationship with student
A western Pennsylvania teacher is facing charges after police say she had an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Olivia Ortz, 26, worked at Wilmington Area High School in Lawrence County.
She is accused of having sex with the 17-year-old student at her home while her husband was out of town.
Investigators said Ortz's husband, who had been contracted for past stage productions at the school, found messages on his wife's iPad between her and the female student.
He told the school principal, and the two made a report to Childline.
"It's a tragedy for everyone. It's a tragedy for the student and her family. It's a tragedy for the teacher's husband and his family. It's a tragedy for the teacher. She's a talented young woman just getting started in her career. And from what we've seen, she made a number of horribly bad decisions," said Chief Carmen Piccirillo, with New Wilmington police.
The district website says Ortz was immediately suspended and that she has since resigned.
