Harrisburg-area Japanese restaurant owner opens a third establishment

Genki Sushi & Grill operates at 1565 Manheim Pike in Lancaster County.

An owner of two Harrisburg-area Japanese restaurants expanded to Lancaster County.

Henry Huang partnered with his brother-in-law to open Genki Sushi and Grill at 1565 Manheim Pike at the Granite Run Square shopping center.

Genki serves a similar menu of sushi, sashimi and teriyaki as Huang’s other restaurants, Sapporo East in Hampden Township and Miso in Lower Paxton Township. The BYOB restaurant opened about two weeks ago.

Huang’s wife, Jen, said the family had been eyeing Lancaster as a possible location for a third restaurant. She said Lancaster’s rapid growth and addition of retailers such as PF Chang’s and Whole Foods makes it appealing.

They built the nearly 90-seat restaurant including sushi bar from scratch inside a former karate studio. Her brother, Sean, had been working at Miso for several years.

When Huang opened Sapporo East nearly 23 years ago, it was one of the first sushi restaurants on the West Shore.

Genki is open: 11 a.m.- 9 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 11:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday. It’s closed Mondays.
