A Philadelphia teen who was out skateboarding when police say an illegal dirt bike rider hit him on Sunday night succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

Jesus Gomez Rosario, 17, was hit by the rider who was doing wheelies illegally at about 10:30 p.m.

Illegal dirt bike riders have long been an issue in Philadelphia, and Rich Zeoli, the host of the Rich Zeoli Show on 1210 WPHT News Radio, said that it's not only annoying but also incredibly dangerous.

"They have zero regard for traffic. They have zero regard for pedestrian safety and public safety, and now we have a teenager dead," Zeoli said.

This is the second time that this has happened, and while police do their best to stop them, Zeoli says that there is no sense of deterrence for these dirt bike riders, or "monsters," as he calls them.

"They're not afraid of any consequences," Zeoli said, adding that Rosario's death is "a very sad thing."

While crime has been an issue in the city, Zeoli says that this is a crisis, but no elected officials seem to want to do anything about it. Even with people losing their lives.

"This is a real public safety crisis. It gives people one more reason to not want to come to Philadelphia," Zeoli said.

Zeoli says that this is a quality of life issue and that it isn't safe to have careless dirt bike or ATV riders zooming through city streets when families are getting dinner, walking around, or just living life.

He continued saying that allowing this to happen only invites more crime and mischief to happen in the city.

"You allow this to continue in the city, and then you're surprised at the results," Zeoli said.
