The Detroit Free Press Marathon has a new partner.

Orangetheory Fitness is the official fitness center of the 2022 Free Press Marathon, race officials announced Thursday.

“We’re excited to introduce Orangetheory Fitness as our Official Fitness Center,” said Aaron Velthoven, vice president and executive producer of the Detroit Free Press Marathon. “Orangetheory’s revolutionary training programs are a great option for our runners as they build their fitness and endurance leading up to race-day in October.”

The only race in America to cross international borders twice — from Detroit to Windsor and back — the Free Press Marathon is expecting more than 20,000 runners for the 45th annual race weekend, Oct. 14-16, 2022.

Last year was just the third time in the event's history that routes were in the US only. But the plan is to return to Canada this fall.

The weekend-long event will include a number of races; among them the full marathon, five-person marathon relay, the international half marathon and the U.S. half-marathon.

Registration is still open.

The re-designed marathon course will be announced in the first week of June and is the most significant update since the first race in 1978.

“Orangetheory Fitness is excited to partner with the 2022 Detroit Free Press Marathon to bring #MORELIFE to the Detroit Community,” said Lucy Babcock, Orangetheory Fitness' regional director of fitness. "This partnership supports the Orangetheory Fitness mission, which is to provide proven fitness results for a healthier world."

Orangetheory has more than 1,400 locations nationwide, including 23 in Michigan and  18 in metro Detroit.
