Pickford boys, St. Ignace girls lead Newberry Elks meet

NEWBERRY — The Pickford boys and Newberry girls claimed titles at the Newberry Elks Invitational track and field meet Tuesday.

Pickford won the boys meet with 146 points, followed by St. Ignace 89.5 and Newberry 69.5. They were followed by Cedarvllle 59, Engadine 46.75, Brimley 38, Rudyard 35.75, Manistique 28, Ojibwe Charter 7, Paradise 6 and Mackinac Island 1.

Pickford’s Hayden Hagen took first in the 1600 (5:06.43) and 3200 (10:54.39). Noah Barowski won the 200 dash (25.13) and he was second in the 100 and second in long jump. 

Caden Awbrey won 110 hurdles (18.30) and 300 hurdles. John Smith finished first in high jump (5-11). 

Cole Warner, Aaron Heal, Awbrey and Barowski won the 800 relay in 1:39.65. Awbrey, Heal, Hunter Hagen and Sullivan took first in 1600 relay (3:47.98). Sullivan, Garrett Orsborne, Hayden Hagen and Hunter Hagen won 3200 relay (9:26.88).

Aarol Heal took second and Hunter Hagen was third in the 400. Hunter Hagen finished third in the 800. Sullivan was third in 110 hurdles. 

Kordell Killscrow of St. Ignace won long jump (17-6). Trevor Visnaw, Jonny Ingalls, Reese MCLean and Christian Koiveniemi won the 400 relay (48.43). Ingalls placed second in 110 hurdles and third in 300 hurdles. 

Eric Edwards of Newberry took second in shot put. Claudio Bistolfi was third in the 3200, while Matthew Rahilly was third in long jump. 

Aidan Ondrus of Cedarville won the 100 dash (12.30) and the 400 (55.40). Hoss Sweeney was second in the 800 and 1600. 

Engadine’s Mathias Miller won shot put (45-feet). Conrad Spieles was second in the 3200 and 300 hurdles, while Drew French took second in discus. 

Brimley’s Ben Smart and Trevor Visnaw of St. Igance tied for first in pole vault. Owen Ennes took second in high jump. Parker Veeneman took third in the 100 and 200. 

EJ Suggitt of Rudyard won discus (112-1) and took third in shot put. Tate Besteman placed second in the 200 and third in high jump. 

Seth Mills of Paradise took third in discus.

St. Ignace won the girls meet with 146.33 points, while Rudyard was runner-up with 86 and Pickford took third in 64. Brimley was fourth with 60.5, followed by Manistique 43.33, Engadine 42, Cedarville 36.83, Newberry 27 and Mackinac Island 15.

Gwin Kellan and Ally Schultz placed 1-2 in the 100 and 200 dashes. Mariana Zaragoza won the 800 (2:40.08) and was second in the 1600. Brooklyn Thibault and Allison Cece tied for first in pole vault (7-feet), while Wisteria Brady was third. Heidi Dorenbecker took second in long jump. 

Kellan, Jillian Fraser, Dorenbecker and Schultz took first in 400 relay in 55.77. Dorenbecker, Fraser, Ella Adams and Schultz won 800 relay (1:58.53).

Tristin Smith of Rudyard won the 400 (1:07.33) and 1600 (5:59.45). Cheyenne Ballard won 300 hurldes (55.81) and long jump (13-9.5). Karlee Mayer was second in the 800, and Kaitlynn Pitts was third in the 400.

Ballard, Mayer, Pitts and Tristin Smith won 1600 relay in 4:36.32. Summer Smith, Tristin Smith, Kiersten Martin and Mayer won 3200 relay in 11:38.78.

Haley Cornwell of Pickford took first in the 3200 (13:31.93). Brooke Portice placed second in discus, while Kadence Potoczak was third in shot put. 

Vivian Carrick of Brimley won the 100 hurdles (18.29). The Bays’ Grace Hill won shot put (34-8) and was third in discus. Liz Johnson was second in the 400, while Autumn Tremblay was third in 100 hurdles. 

Tessa Paquin (4-6) and Lauren King of Engadine finished 1-2 in high jump. 

Cedarville’s Hayley Kohlmann took second in 300 hurdles. Lilliana Cason was third in the 800. 

Pickford hosts a Division 3 regional Friday. St. Ignace and Newberry are scheduled to run at a Division 2 regional at Gwinn Friday.
