Scott City baseball ends season in Garden City

Garden City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City baseball team saw their season come to an end on Tuesday afternoon, in an 11-7 loss to the Holcomb Longhorns at Williams Stadium in the Class 3A Regional.

Scott City started out well, leading 2-0 after the top of the first inning. Holcomb rallied for six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 6-2 lead. In the second, the Beavers would pull to within 6-4, and get the game tied up in the fourth inning at 6-6. The Longhorns rallied for two more in the bottom of the fourth inning to lead 8-6 and put up two more runs to take a 10-6 lead into the sixth. Both teams added a run in the sixth. Scott City had one final chance to rally, but a double play ended the game to make the final 11-7 in favor of Holcomb.

Scott City ended their season at 12-8.

Holcomb would go on to the championship game, and face the Goodland Cowboys. It would be a back and forth game, as the Longhorns took an 11-9 lead into the seventh inning. The Cowboys scored five runs to lead 14-11, which would end up being the final. 

Goodland doubled up Lakin 8-4 earlier in the day, and they will take a 10-11 record into the Class 3A State tournament next Thursday. Holcomb ended their season at 14-7.
