ROSEVILLE, MI -- The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office says no charges will be brought against an officer with the Roseville Police Department after the officer shot and killed a man last month following a traffic accident. According to Fox 2 Detroit, the MCSO completed its investigation of the April 26 shooting and determined it did not find evidence that necessitated charges against officer Chad Lee.
The MCSO was asked to investigate the shooting after Frank Robles, 57, of Roseville was killed in the altercation. Body cam footage captured from Lee’s point of view and another responding officer shows Robles shortly after a traffic accident on Groesbeck near 12 Mile and Martin roads.
As the officers approach the scene, Lee asks Robles if he’s OK while noticing Robles was holding a knife. Both Lee and the other officer instructed Robles to drop the knife, but he did not comply. Lee begins to back away from Robles who begins to take a step toward Lee. When Robles again refuses to comply with directions to drop the knife, Lee fired a handful of shots, striking Robles. Robles appears to attempt to stand back up and is shot several more times before staying on the ground.
A 4-inch-long knife that was described as a filet knife was found at the scene. Robles can also be seen holding a knife in the female officer’s body cam footage. Nine shots were fired in total, with the first shot being fired 15 seconds after police arrived on scene.
Lee and the other officer were placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation was ongoing. The MCSO says the investigation is now closed.
