Senior animals are being surrendered more frequently to the Stafford County Animal Shelter, according to a new social media post.
It seems lately we have had an increase number of senior animals being surrendered to our shelter," the shelter said in a Facebook post. "The shelter is no place to retire," the post continued.
The shelter currently has three senior dogs waiting for the family that will love them in their remaining years.
"We would love to see someone new lift their spirits and allow them a comfortable place to rest their paws," staff wrote.
Brutus is a bully breed around 10-years-old that was found running loose near a local train track, the shelter said. He was on his own for several days before an animal control officer picked him up. Brutus has a microchip and the shelter was able to locate the owner, who claims he ran away or was stolen a very long time ago, but they are in no position to take him back.
Dan is an 11-year-old beagle mix who was surrendered due to the family moving. He is good with children and other dogs. He has never lived with cats. Dan is very confused and shakes in his cage at the new sights and smells.
Tiger is a 9-year-old Cane Corso who was surrendered due to the owner having medical issues. Tiger is very sweet and loves going for walks. Despite how slow-moving he is, he has a lot of pep in his step.
The shelter is open for walk ins.
Call (540) 658-7387 if you would like to visit with any of the animals.
