Three-vehicle crash near Sagamore Bridge backs up Route 6 traffic leaving the Cape

SAGAMORE — A three-vehicle accident on Route 6 westbound at the base of the Sagamore Bridge Thursday morning is causing a traffic backup. At least one person was injured.

The accident occurred at about 9 a.m. The three vehicles collided near Exit 55, halting traffic in the left lane on westbound Route 6 and slowing traffic heading off-Cape.

Bourne Police, Massachusetts State Police and the Bourne Fire Department arrived at the scene after 911 calls were made. 

Two cars were significantly damaged in the accident, according to a Times reporter who witnessed the crash. The third car involved left the scene, she said.

Responding officers said that one woman, who they can't identify, was brought by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of injuries. They could not say the extent of her injuries.

Police have closed the left lane near the area of the crash. Traffic is backed up to Sandwich's Route 130 exit.
