QUINCY — Caitlin Dietiker, a Quincy woman accused of supplying fentanyl to a 21-year-old woman who died of an overdose, was set to enter a plea two months ago.

That status hadn’t changed until moments before she was scheduled to enter his plea on May 11 in Adams County Circuit Court.

Dietiker then made it clear during another hearing on Wednesday afternoon that she wants her case to go to trial.

Judge Roger Thomson started the hearing by asking public defender Todd Nelson, “Are we ready to proceed today?” Nelson replied, “Miss Dietiker has made a request. This is something that I cannot accommodate.”

Dietiker blurted out, “That I can’t read my discovery?”

Nelson finished his statement. “So at the moment anyway, we’re at an impasse,” he said.

Dietker then followed by saying, “No, we’re going to trial.”

After Thomson asked Jason Priest, Dietiker’s boyfriend, to leave the courtroom for making comments during the hearing, he asked Nelson if he was prepared for trial. Nelson requested for the case to be continued one more time to “see if this is something that can be resolved. If not, then we can anticipate setting it for trial.”

A status hearing was set for June 1.

Dietiker was indicted Jan. 27 on one count of drug-induced homicide in the death of Jillian Hogan. The cause of death was determined to be fentanyl intoxication. The indictment was served on Dietiker in the Adams County Jail, where she already was lodged on unrelated charges of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance in March and possession of a controlled substance charges in July.

Officers from the Quincy Police Department responded in March 2021 to a death investigation at 1255 Maine. After a several months-long investigation, Dietiker was identified as a suspect in supplying Hogan with the fentanyl that ultimately caused her death.

A drug-induced homicide is a Class X felony with a sentencing range of 15 to 30 years.

Dietiker continues to be held in the Adams County Jail $500,000.
