A Town of Marathon man was arrested on multiple charges following an altercation with an individual this past Sunday, according to a Cortland County Sheriff’s Office report.

According to the report, Kyle J. Karpensky, 36, engaged in an altercation with another individual before 11 p.m. Sunday.

Lt. John Gallagher noted that as of right now, it’s known that Karpensky was in an altercation with only one individual. Gallagher also said he is unsure as to how the altercation started.

In the midst of the altercation, the report notes that Karpensky “brandished a knife, damaged a vehicle, and exposed himself” while “in the presence of a child.”

Details on why and how Karpensky exposed himself has yet to be determined, Gallagher said.

Karpensky has been charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (a Class-E Felony); and second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child and public lewdness (all misdemeanors).

Karpensky was arraigned and is currently being held at the Cortland County Jail without bail. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Marathon court at 6:30 p.m. June 6.

Gallagher mentioned that the investigation revolving around Karpensky and the altercation is ongoing.
