Coronation Street star teases Fiz's reaction to Phill's proposal

Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine has teased Fiz Stape's reaction to Phill Whittaker's surprise proposal – but will she say yes?

In scenes set to air next week, Phill attempts to make amends with Fiz after her daughter Hope discovers a "distressing" secret about her potential stepfather.

Amid the fallout from Hope's discovery, and Fiz's decision to go back to the cobbles, Phill pops the question – and Jennie has admitted that her character is "swept away" by the romance of it all.

"Phill is just romantic and kind to Fiz," the actress told Digital Spy and other media. "He's all the things that Tyrone wasn't.

"There's a line in the episode, which is really sweet. Basically, Phill lists all the things that he loves about their relationship. It's basically the same lines that Tyrone said when he left Fiz, and it was all the things he didn't like – sitting on the sofa with her, he was bored of it.

"But Phill says that's what he loves."

Hinting at Fiz's hopes for stability, Jennie continued: "Fiz had this conversation with Tyrone and it was a different outcome, but in this one, Phill has got a ring. I think she's a bit swept away by the romantic gesture of it. He's nothing but kind to her."

While we'll have to wait and see if Fiz accepts Phill's proposal, Jennie has revealed what she would like to see for Fiz in the future: "a nice white wedding."

She said: "The last wedding that Fiz had, if we remember, was in prison with only Chesney and the prison guard as guests. So I think it would be nice for her to have a nice happy ending, a nice white wedding."

A nice white wedding? That's almost unheard of in soapland...
