Snoop Dogg released his Coolaid album in 2016 featuring a song called “Ten Toes Down,” but only now is he revealing the track was actually written by the late Nipsey Hussle. Produced by 1500 or Nothin’s Carlos “Los” McSwain, the song samples the 2002 movie Paid in Full and includes three verses penned by the Crenshaw rapper.

“Can’t walk around without your muthfuckin’ gun, that’s a no no,” Snoop raps on the song. “Real hood redemption, my tiny Lokos is really on a mission/N-ggas runnin’ they mouth, that’s unacceptable/21st Street, Long Beach ’til the death of you.”
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday (May 18), Snoop Dogg posted a video of himself smoking to “Ten Toes Down” while revealing Nipsey Hussle’s role as a ghostwriter.
“The late great @nipseyhussle wrote this for me,” he wrote. “10ToesDown. Coolaid. Albulm.”
Snoop Dogg had a close relationship with Nipsey Hussle before his passing in March 2019. Speaking at his memorial service, Snoop told the story about the first time they met.
“I didn’t grow up with Nip,” he said. “I didn’t grow up with him in the neighborhood as a kid, but I watched Nip grow up in front of me. I watched him grow into a full-grown man and an incredible young business man.

“I still remember the first time when he pushed up on me with his tape. Most rappers when they push up on Snoop Dogg with a tape, this is their line: ‘Aye dawg, listen to my music. I can make you a million dollars.’ Nipsey’s line was, ‘Aye homie, listen to my music. Just give it a listen.'”

He also talked about comparisons between them and what they had in common, while describing them meeting as “a magnet coming together.”
“What was crazy was, when he first started, a lot of people was like, ‘He look like me.’ But I don’t think so,” he said. “I think it was the fact that he was tall. He was lanky. He had braids. He had that L.A. mentality, and he claimed the gang so it was natural to be categorized.”
He continued, “But one thing that me and Nip had was a kind spirit, we had that spirit of love … When we met each other, it was like a magnet coming together. We had the same spirit. But what was crazy was Nip mentality was stronger than a rapper that’s been in the game for 15 years.”

Snoop Dogg and Nipsey Hussle collaborated numerous times on songs such as “Upside Down,” “Question #1” and “Gangstas Life.” Snoop also released a tribute song called “Nipsey Blue” for what would have been his 35th birthday.
