A PlayStation 3 Classic Is Being Remastered, Coming This Year

Old PlayStation gems are making a comeback, largely thanks to the upcoming overhaul of PlayStation Plus.

Those with access to the Premium tier will get access to a bunch of incredible PlayStation 3 titles via cloud streaming including Crash Commando, Demon’s Souls, Infamous, Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time, and Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare.

This is all well and good, but what if I told you something even better? Forget cloud streaming: one major PlayStation 3 classic is being remastered, and it’s coming this year.

I’m talking about Sidhe Interactive’s Shatter, released back in 2009. A clone of 1976’s arcade classic Breakout, Shatter essentially sees players destroy a series of blocks using a ball. It sounds pretty basic and it is, but add in a banging soundtrack and Shatter was a stress-free way to while away an hour.

If you think that sounds fun, you’re in luck. Shatter Remastered Deluxe is coming this year, in “late 2022.” Originally a PlayStation console exclusive, Shatter Remastered Deluxe will be released on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 so you should be good to go no matter your platform of choice.

PikPok is working on the remaster and following the announcement, they said, “Master mind-bending physics to manipulate and bounce balls at increasingly complex geometric structures, destroying bricks with intuitive controls fine-tuned for console, Mac and PC. Take advantage of the unique 'Suck and Blow' mechanic to control the angle of each ball's trajectory for precision attacks. Grab essential power ups like the Unstoppaball and Maneuveraball to deliver maximum damage."

Touching on the game’s improved graphics, PikPok added, “Progress through richly-detailed sci-fi-inspired stages with improved VFX running at native 4K 120 FPS, fine-tuned innovative gameplay mechanics, and a completely remixed soundtrack in 5.1 surround sound.” It certainly sounds like Shatter Remastered Deluxe is going to offer a hugely improved experience and we can’t wait to get our hands on it.
