Davenport police identify motorcyclist killed in Wednesday crash

On Wednesday night, an SUV was making a left turn from Kimberly Road onto Fairmount Street when it struck a motorcyclist.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — A traffic collision involving an SUV and a motorcycle Wednesday night, May 18 in Davenport left one person injured and another dead, according to the Davenport Police Department.

Police identified the motorcyclist as Michael Vickers, 56, of Davenport on Friday evening. 

The collision happened at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Kimberly Road and Fairmount Street, near the IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union. Police said the driver of the SUV was traveling westbound on Kimberly Road and made a left turn onto Fairmount Street, where the SUV struck an eastbound motorcycle.

The drivers of the SUV and the motorcycle were transported to local hospitals to be treated for crash-related injuries. The motorcyclist later died due to his injuries.

Following the collision, Fairmount Street between Kimberly and Hickory Grove roads was shut down for about five hours as investigators processed the scene. The roadway has since reopened, but the investigation into the incident was ongoing as of Friday afternoon, May 20.
