Former EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite suffered a worrying head injury while taking part in the BBC's Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof.

The six-part series, presented by This Morning's Holly Willoughby and comedian Lee Mack, saw eight celebrities push their bodies and minds to the limits across a series of sub-zero challenges, guided by the self-proclaimed 'Iceman' Wim Hof.

The final episode, which aired earlier this week, saw the stars attempt a swim under the ice, where after jumping into freezing temperatures, they swam a total of six metres under icy water.

Tamzin successfully completed the swim, but (quite literally) hit a snag when coming up to the surface. "I banged my head, I'm getting out," she said, appearing disoriented, as Wim Hof helped her out of the water.

"I just banged my head," Tamzin told Holly and Lee, who agreed she had suffered a "nasty whack". While a visibly concerned Holly tried to comfort Tamzin, the former EastEnders favourite said: "I might need to sit down."

Fortunately, the medics of Freeze the Fear were on hand to make sure Tamzin was okay.

Reflecting on her experience, the actor told followers on Instagram that she was "sad to say goodbye" as the series came to an end on TV.

"I will be sad to say goodbye to it. I feel like I am gripping on tightly to the me who likes the cold, the me that is only responsible for myself for once, the me that has formed friendships with some inspirational humans that I never would have met had I not said yes to this experience," she wrote in a post.

Tamzin, who played the iconic Mel Owen in 'Enders, later told Closer that she found Freeze the Fear "a breath of fresh air".

"Taking part in the show did me good," she admitted. "Being away from home and having an experience with all these new people was a breath of fresh air. It was a crazy and exhilarating time."

Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof aired on BBC One, and is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
