Garrett Wilson signs rookie deal with New York Jets

Former Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson is officially a member of the New York Jets.

Wilson signed a four-year, fully-guaranteed $20.55 million contract with the Jets to begin his pro career after being selected with the No. 10 overall pick in the NFL Draft last month.

He was selected just one pick ahead of Chris Olave, who went to the New Orleans Saints at No. 11 overall.

Wilson torched opposing defenses during his time with the Buckeyes, and now he is on to the NFL to do more of the same at the next level. He is officially on board with the Jets after signing his rookie deal on Wednesday.

Ryan Day, Chris Holtmann sign contract extensions with Buckeyes

The Ohio State Board of Trustees approved contract extensions for football coach Ryan Day and hoops coach Chris Holtmann on Wednesday, locking them both in with the Buckeyes through 2028.

The extension details for Ryan Day:

  • A two-year extension that will keep Day under contract through 2028
  • An increase in annual salary from $7.6 million to $9.5 million with a base pay of $2 million per year

The extension details for Chris Holtmann:

  • a three-year extension that will keep Holtmann under contract through the 2027-28 season
  • salary increase of $500,000, bringing him to a $3.5 million annual deal with a base salary of $1.0 million per year

Day has certainly earned the extension for what he has done with the Buckeyes. He is 34-4 as a head coach, and only two of those losses have happened during the regular season. During his first three seasons, Ohio State has won two Big Ten titles and made two trips to the College Football Playoff. They won the Sugar Bowl to get to a national championship game in 2020 and won the Rose Bowl last year.

Ohio State is 107-56 overall since Holtmann took over the program. The Buckeyes have reached the NCAA Tournament all four years it has been played during Holtmann’s tenure, reaching the Round of 32 three times in that span. Holtmann has impressed as a recruiter, especially in the loaded class of 2022 and the first few commitments in the class of 2023.

ICYMI: Networks release time slots for two biggest Buckeyes games this fall

Ohio State and Michigan didn’t expect The Game to move off its annual channel or time slot.

But it’s still nice to have it officially in the Noon window for the last weekend in November. And that’s exactly what FOX did on Monday. The Nov. 26 rivalry showdown will kick at Noon inside the Horseshoe and on FOX.

Ohio State will face Michigan with revenge on its mind for the first time since 2012. The Buckeyes lost to the Wolverines in Ann Arbor back in November, ending their Big Ten title and College Football Playoff dreams.

But months before that game will happen, Ohio State will open the season under the lights against Notre Dame.

The Buckeyes will host Notre Dame on Sept. 3 — and that will take place in a prime time, 7:30 p.m. kickoff inside the Horseshoe and on ABC.

The football program made the scheduling announcement Tuesday, giving the Buckeyes a night home opener against the Fighting Irish — and a Week One date with College Gameday on site in the morning to give the game an even bigger spotlight.

Ohio State is already preparing for that Week One matchup, which will carry massive College Football Playoff implications early in the season.
