Starke County Election Board Reviews May Primary Election

The Starke County Election Board reviewed the May Primary Election during their regular meeting Wednesday morning.

Overall, Clerk Bernadette Welter-Manuel explained that operations went smoothly throughout the day. There were a few voter and poll worker complaints that were later resolved.

After review, Welter-Manuel recommended reducing the number of early voting days at the North Judson and Koontz Lake satellite sites.  She commented that the turnout was slow and the board could cut costs by reducing the number of days the satellite sites are open. The board unanimously voted to cut one day from the schedule.  The early voting satellite sites at North Judson and Koontz Lake will be open Thursday and Friday from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT for the November General Election.

The board also unanimously voted to reduce the number of Clerks at the Washington Township, Knox, Bass Lake, and North Judson Vote Centers for the General Election in November.  It could be amended in upcoming elections.  They will look at the number of Facilitators in an upcoming meeting.
