Visitors literally walk through the artwork at Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience. The exhibit comes to Jacksonville in September.
Vincent Van Gogh's most famous works are released from their frames for the Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience show that comes to Jacksonville in the fall.

An art show coming to Jacksonville in the fall will allow visitors to walk through masterpieces by Vincent Van Gogh.

Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience is scheduled to come to a new Immersive Art Space on West Beaver Street from Sept. 16-Nov. 6.

The traveling show turns more than 300 of the Dutch master's best-known pieces — "Starry Night," "Sunflowers," "Cafe Terrace at Night" — into high-resolution digital projections displayed throughout the 30,000-square-foot exhibit. Still images and an original musical score are also part of the show.

The idea, according to a news release from the creators, is to free Van Gogh's work from its frames and project the images onto every surface in the room, including the people, allowing visitors to see the art from a whole new perspective.

Tickets are sold in 15-minute timed slots, so visitors will have to arrive on time in order to control the size of the crowd. The show takes about an hour to walk through and there is no limit on how long visitors can spend inside. The space will be wheelchair-accessible but seating will be limited.

Prices vary for peak and non-peak days. On peak days (Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays), tickets range from $28.99-$83.99. On non-peak days, prices range from $23.99-$73.99. Tickets are on sale now, and many slots are already sold out.

The show has already played in Miami and is open in Sarasota through Aug. 5. It is scheduled to stop in Pensacola, Tallahassee and West Palm Beach, but dates have not been set.
