Multiple people shot on I-580 in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — Multiple people were shot last night in Oakland in the area of Interstate-580 and Seminary Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol. KRON4 has learned that two people died in the shooting.

CHP thought it was responding to the scene of a car crash, but soon after found multiple bullet holes and gunshot victims. CHP did not initially specify how many people were inside the car, or their conditions, but officials did say some were taken to the hospital for injuries.

According to a CHP press release midday Thursday, three of the four occupants of a black Nissan sedan were shot. The fourth was injured in the rollover car crash. All four were taken to the hospital, where two of the three that had been shot were pronounced dead.

The suspect vehicle has not been found, and the motive is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact CHP at 707-917-4491.

CHP told KRON4 that it responded at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday to calls regarding a traffic crash. CHP issued a ‘Sigalert’ for significant traffic. One lane was closed, as well as the eastbound 580 Seminary off-ramp. Police asked drivers to avoid the area and find other routes.

Freeway shootings have been common in the Bay Area, but often they are random.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
