Suspect on the run in black Nissan SUV after robbing bank in Monroe County

MONROE TWP. (WWJ) – The search is on for a man who robbed a bank at gunpoint in Monroe Township on Wednesday afternoon.

Officials with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office say the robbery happened around 2:45 p.m. at the First Merchants Bank on Dixie Highway near Albain Road.

The suspect entered the bank, approached a teller and pulled out a note demanding money, according to the sheriff’s office. The suspect implied he had a weapon, though he never took it out and no one inside the bank ever saw it.

No customers were inside the bank at the time and no injuries were reported.

The teller gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money and the suspect exited the bank. He was seen walking west through the bank parking lot and got into a black Nissan SUV with a temporary license plate in the rear window.

Police describe the suspect as a Black male, approximately 6'0” tall with a thin build. He was wearing a blue surgical mask, black Nike ball cap, a long sleeve red zip-up Nike jacket and gray pants.

Authorities have released surveillance photos of the suspect and are asking anyone who recognizes him or knows something about the robbery to call the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.

The robbery remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and the FBI.
