A Harrisburg man was jailed earlier this month, accused of repeatedly attacking a pregnant Derry Township woman and intimidating her through attacks and being at her home.

This is the second set of charges filed against 20-year-old Luis A. Espinal-Rivera, who was accused of assaulting the same woman in April.

According to Derry Township police, in the first attack Espinal-Rivera choked and strangled the woman, and punched her in the stomach. After, he attempted to intimidate her during different attacks over several days. Those involved him punching her in the stomach, threatening to harm her unborn child and other physical assaults including stabbing her with a fork and hitting her with a baseball bat.

Police said Espinal-Riveral also tried to get into contact with the woman in an attempt to intimidate her and harass her into dropping the previous charges against him.

On the night of May 3, officers were called to the woman’s home because Espinal-Rivera was outside, wearing a black ski mask and throwing items at the residence in an attempt to get her attention, police said.

He also had the woman’s phone, which he had stolen previously, according to police. Officers were able to arrest Espinal-Rivera without incident that night, and he is being held in Dauphin County Prison on $100,000.

Preliminary hearings on both charges are scheduled for May 24.
