#BoycottAdidas Trending On Twitter As Manchester United Fans Go To Extra Lengths To Protest The Glazers

#BoycottAdidas Trending On Twitter As Manchester United Fans Go To Extra Lengths To Protest The Glazers

A group of Red Devils fans amped up their anti-Glazer tactics by boycotting major United stakeholders on Twitter.

Manchester United fans have gone to extra lengths in an attempt to get the Glazers to sell the club by snubbing global sporting brand Adidas.

A group of Red Devils fans amped up their anti-Glazer tactics by starting a ‘#BoycottAdidas’ trend on Twitter in an effort to target major United stakeholders.

Some United supporters threatened not to wear products from their club’s shirt manufacturer until their American owners the Glazers sell the club.

Manchester United fans have been at odds with the Glazers for years now, with the American family made up of the late Malcolm Glazer’s six children.

Underground fan group ‘The 1958’ have been pioneering the protests and are attacking every angle of the club in an attempt to get their American owners to sell.

The 1958 revealed their latest stunt on Twitter will be part of a longer cyber campaign against major Glazer stakeholders.

They tweeted: “Calling all reds! Tonight we launch our worldwide cyber campaign against the Glazer stakeholders.

“Each week we'll be focusing on one Stakeholder at a time and posting two easy tasks every few days that week.

“This week we start with: Adidas

“Do your bit, save your club.”

The tasks provided by the group involved reducing the effectiveness of Adidas’ advertising on Google and sharing bad Adidas press across social media.

The campaign managed to gain some legs as well with the #BoycottAdidas trending in the United Kingdom.

One user wrote: “#BoycottAdidas Until the Glazers leave we will never wear Adidas again."

In May 2021, United supporters stormed Old Trafford to protest the ownership and subsequently postponed their fixture against long-time rivals Liverpool.

‘Get out of our club,’ and ‘We want Glazers out’ were common chants heard among the commotion as flares of yellow and green colours were set off in reference to the club’s 1878 formation colours.

Earlier this month, a pre-planned walkout in the 73rd minute of the final Red Devils’ home game of the season against Brentford took place, organised by The 1958.

Fans left peacefully 17 minutes before the end of the game to signify the 17 years Glazers had been in charge of their club.

However, majority of the supporters opted to stay in their seats, largely thanks to United’s third goal of the game coming in the 72nd minute.

The Glazers completed their takeover of the Red Devils back in 2005 taking out a staggering AU$931million (£525m) in loans and leveraging the debt onto the brand of Manchester United.

Since then much of the fan's ire comes from the mismanagement of the club with the Glazers taking much of United’s profits to pay off their own debts.
