Where Baton Rouge ranks in U.S. News’ Best Places to Live list

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Out of 150 metro areas, the Red Stick ranked #93 on U.S. News’ 2022-23 Best Places to Live list.

Cities were ranked by U.S. News based on value, desirability, job market strength, and quality of life. Baton Rouge earned an overall rating of 6.1. Rating breakdown for Baton Rouge:

Baton Rouge also ranked in other U.S. News lists, placing #126 in Best Places to Retire, #1 in Best Places to Live in Louisiana, and #21 in Cheapest Places to Live.

As to what attracts people to Baton Rouge, U.S. News says the area is “known for its competitive jobs in engineering and health care,” which creates “exciting prospects” for its residents. The cost of living in Baton Rouge is cheaper in comparison to other metro areas in the country and is “roughly on par” with national averages, according to U.S. News.

Other Louisiana cities on U.S. News’ Best Places to Live list were Lafayette at #116 and New Orleans at #136. Places topping the list were Huntsville, Alabama at #1, Colorado Springs, Colorado at #2, and Green Bay, Wisconsin at #3.
