Traffic fatality numbers in Nebraska up in 2022 compared to recent years

LINCOLN, Neb. —
The death toll on Nebraska's roads is up significantly compared to recent years.

The Department of Transportation (NDOT) reported 93 people have died in crashes so far this year. That's up 31% over last year. That number includes 10 pedestrian deaths.
The past five years have seen similar fatality counts at this time in the year ranging from 68-77.

NDOT said a large majority of those who died in car accidents were not using seatbelts.
