Grads announce plans, scholarships

Holyoke graduating seniors of the Class of 2022 earned a total of $1.3 million in scholarships and grant money. Those honors and their future plans were announced at the graduation ceremony Sunday, May 15, at the Holyoke JR/SR High gymnasium.

Jose Ayala plans to continue working as a farmer and rancher with the goal of studying equine sciences or social work in the future.

Janette Beltran plans to attend Northeastern Junior College and major in art.

Sam Boling plans to attend the Paul Mitchell School of Cosmetology in Denver and earn her cosmetology license.

Anna Chaney plans to attend University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska, and major in criminal justice. She received the FCCLA Leadership Scholarship, George Beadle Tuition Scholarship, Fred and Ella Kropp Family Education Trust Scholarship and Holyoke Music Parents Association Scholarship.

Wendy Chaparro plans to attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins and major in architectural design. She received the Cassidy Hale Memorial Scholarship, PC Telcom Scholarship and Hutt Family Education Trust Scholarship.

Owen Cruz plans to enter the workforce after graduation.

Alexis Dominguez plans to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and earn a degree in electrical engineering and then start his own business as an electrician. He has earned an Occupational Safety and Health Administration Training Industry Certificate.

Wendy Favela plans to take a year off from school to spend time with her baby, then she plans to further her education by going to college to study interior design.

Tristen Ferguson plans to attend the University of Northern Colorado and further his education. He has earned an OSHA Training Industry Certificate. He received the Joe W. and Theresa M. Ortner Family Education Trust Scholarship, Grace Ferguson Memorial Scholarship, Holyoke Music Parents Association Scholarship and University of Northern Colorado Presidential Scholarship.

Ruby Granados plans to enter the workforce while also furthering her education to become a flight attendant.

Kailar Hayes plans to attend the University of Denver and major in computer science/game development. He received the University of Denver Chancellor Scholarship and Daniels Fund Scholarship.

Lauren Herman plans to attend the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, South Dakota. She will major in industrial engineering and play for the Hardrocker women’s basketball team. She has earned an OSHA Training Industry Certificate. She received the George Dalton Family Scholarship; Holyoke FFA Family, Friends and Alumni Scholarship; Holyoke Friends of the Library Scholarship; Holyoke Lions Club Scholarship; Ballyneal Foundation Scholarship; PC Telcom Scholarship; Powell Seed Dekalb Scholarship; and South Dakota School of Mines Athletic Scholarship.

Cesilia Iniguez plans to attend Northeastern Junior College in Sterling to earn her licensed practical nurse degree.

Kyleigh Jaeger plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and major in biology. She received the Federal Pell Grant, Bud Brewer Memorial Scholarship, Central Plains Equipment Scholarship, FCE Jolly Dozen Club Scholarship, FCCLA Leadership Scholarship and Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship.

Diego Jimenez plans to attend the University of Denver and major in political science. He received the Anibal Juarez Scholarship, Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship, Mary Ann and Joel S. Biddle Scholarship, and University of Denver Provost Scholarship.

Ethan Johnson plans to attend the University of Colorado in Boulder to major in cinema studies and play for the Buffaloes men’s basketball team. He received the Stanley and Shirley Travis Scholarship.

Cade Killin plans to attend Baylor University in Waco, Texas, to study business with the goal of attending law school. He received the Highline Electric Scholarship, Holyoke FBLA Scholarship, Red Cross Blood Drive Scholarship, Vieselmeyer Seed-Pioneer Community Investment Scholarship, Baylor University Distinction Award and Baylor University Achievement Scholarship.

Kaison Kinnie will be serving a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints then plans to receive his degree in sports psychology. He has earned a ServSafe Food Handler Industry Certificate. He received the University of Northern Colorado Provost Scholarship and Phillips County Economic Development Scholarship.

Correy Koellner plans to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and major in animal science. She has earned an OSHA Training Industry Certificate. She received the Federal Pell Grant, Gracey Memorial Athletic Scholarship, Jessie Owens Memorial Scholarship, Kurtis Huss Memorial Scholarship, Nebraska Housing Credit, George Beadle Tuition Scholarship, CASNR Scholarship and VFW Zeiler-Owens-Lindsay Post 6482 Four-Year Scholarship.

Rachel Krueger plans to attend Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and major in health information management. She has earned a Clinical Medical Billing and Coding Industry Certificate. She received the Ballyneal Foundation Scholarship, Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship and Melissa Memorial Hospital Foundation Charla Berry Memorial Scholarship.

Carlos Legarreta plans to attend Colorado State University in Pueblo and major in exercise science with the goal of pursuing his doctorate in physical therapy. He received the Colorado State University-Pueblo President’s Merit Scholarship, Colorado State University-Pueblo First-Generation Scholarship and The “Rudy”Award Given in Memory of Tim Gribben.

Brooklyn Leonard plans to attend a four-year college to major in criminal justice with the goal of attending medical school to become a medical examiner. She received the New England College Presidential Scholarship.

Daniel Leong plans to attend Arapahoe Community College in Littleton to earn an  associate degree in computer science or chemical engineering and then transfer to a larger university.

Kenneth Lindholm plans to attend the University of Colorado in Boulder and major in cinema studies and moving image arts. He received the PC Telcom Scholarship, Holyoke Music Parents Association Scholarship, Velma Biddle Memorial Scholarship, University of Colorado Esteemed Scholars-Hale Scholarship and Mayme Sheridan Preston Scholarship.

Angel Martinez plans to enter the workforce after graduation.

Marco Mendoza plans to attend Emily Griffith Technical College in Denver and become a licensed barber.

Emma Oakley plans to attend Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, and major in interior design. She received the Federal Pell Grant, a Texas Tech University TPEG Non-Resident Grant and a Texas Tech University Scholastic Achievement Scholarship.

Danna Olivas plans to attend Mid-Plains Community College in McCook, Nebraska, to earn her LPN degree. She has earned a ServSafe Food Handler Industry Certificate. She received the Federal Grant, Federal Pell Grant, Mid-Plains Community College Part-Time Scholarship and Mid-Plains Community College Institution Grant.

Michel Perez plans to move to Florida and join the workforce. He has earned an Adobe Certified Professional Industry Certificate and an OSHA Training Industry Certificate.

Yasmil Paniagua plans to study medicine and care for her baby girl.

Ivan Ponce plans to attend Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, and major in exercise science to pursue a career in physical therapy. He has earned an OSHA Training Industry Certificate. He received the Fort Hayes State University Access to Opportunity Grant.

Jonathan Quintana plans to attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins and major in business administration with a concentration on finance and marketing. He has earned an Adobe Certified Professional Industry Certificate. He received the Holyoke FBLA Scholarship, Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship, William Lutze Educational Trust Fund Scholarship, Colorado State University First Generation Scholarship and Colorado State University Merit Scholarship.

Oyuki Rangel Fuentes plans to attend Northeastern Junior College in Sterling to major in nursing and pursue a career as a travel nurse. She received the Ida Mae Skipworth Scholarship and Melissa Memorial Hospital Foundation Shirley Claymon Nursing Scholarship.

Theron Roll plans to attend Western Welding Academy in Gillette, Wyoming, to earn a 6G pipe welding certification. He has earned an OSHA Training Industry Certificate. He received the CHS High Plains Scholarship, Garry Haynes Memorial Scholarship and Larry Burt Memorial Scholarship.

Josie Schlachter plans to attend the University of Sioux Falls in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She will be majoring in chemistry and swimming for the Lady Cougars swim team. She received the Carolyn J. and Dennis J. O’Neal Scholarship; Clarence Robert Zoll Trust Scholarship; Holyoke FFA Family, Friends and Alumni Scholarship; Melissa Memorial Hospital Foundation Legacy Scholarship; Vieselmeyer Seed-Pioneer Community Impact Scholarship; Basin Electric-Member Cooperative Consumer Scholarship; CHS High Plains Scholarship; and University of Sioux Falls Presidential Scholarship.

Aidyn Shafer plans to attend Western Welding Academy in Gillette to earn pipe welding certifications. He has earned an OSHA Training Industry Certificate. He received the Central Plains Equipment Scholarship, Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship and Kendon Olofson Memorial Scholarship.

Tuff Sigler plans to attend Western Welding Academy in Gillette and pursue a career as a nuclear tungsten inert gas hand, constructing, fabricating and repairing pipelines, reactors and more in nuclear processing plants. He has earned an OSHA Training Industry Certificate. He received the Garry Haynes Memorial Scholarship, Highline Electric Scholarship, Redefining Rural Student Advocacy Scholarship, VFW Zeiler-Owens-Lindsay Post 6482 Two-Year Scholarship and The Sterling Livestock/The Meat In Event Scholarship.

Gage Sprague plans to attend Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, and earn a bachelor’s in computer animation. He has earned an Adobe Certified Professional Industry Certificate. He received the Velma Biddle Memorial Scholarship, Full Sail University Dedication Scholarship, Full Sail University Student Support Scholarship, Full Sail University Creative Minds Scholarship, Full Sail University Momentum Scholarship and Full Sail University Academic Award.

Miles Sprague plans to attend Colorado State University-Pueblo where he will major in ag-business and play football for the ThunderWolves. He has earned an Adobe Certified Professional Industry Certificate and an OSHA Training Industry Certificate. He received the Central Plains Equipment Scholarship, Garry Haynes Memorial Scholarship, Colorado State University-Pueblo President’s Merit Scholarship, Colorado State University-Pueblo Athletic Scholarship and Vieselmeyer Seed-Pioneer Community Investment Scholarship.

Baylor Struckmeyer plans to attend Northeastern Junior College in Sterling to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in fire science and emergency medical services as well as join the Sterling Fire Department as a reserve firefighter.

Elyce Talavera plans to attend Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, where she will major in biology and pursue a career as a dermatologist. She has earned an Adobe Certified Professional Industry Certificate. She received the Chapter BM P.E.O. Scholarship and Reimer Family Education Trust Scholarship.

Sam Trusty has enlisted to serve in the Army and will begin his advanced individual training with the Army at Fort Lee, Virginia, on June 6. He has earned the OSHA Training Industry Certificate.

Emmanuel Vasquez Saavedra plans to  attend the University of Colorado in Boulder and earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He received the Federal Pell Grant, Len Balderson Education Scholarship Trust, University of Colorado Promise Grant, Colorado Student Grant and Red Cross Blood Drive Scholarship.

Mason Vernon plans to attend Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota, to major in biology and minor in music. He received the Holyoke Music Parents Association Scholarship, Holyoke Educational Association Scholarship and Black Hills State University Music Performance Scholarship.

Kristin Vieselmeyer plans to attend Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, and major in exercise science and minor in biology, nutrition and psychology. She will also play the for the Bulldogs women’s basketball team. She has earned an OSHA Training Industry Certificate. She received the the Chris Allan Eurich Athletic Training Scholarship; Holyoke FFA Friends, Family and Alumni Scholarship; Keasling Memorial Scholarship; Concordia University Lutheran Heritage Award; Concordia University Regents Scholarship; Concordia University Women’s Basketball Scholarship; and Congregations for Concordia University-Nebraska Scholarship.

Sarahi Zarate plans to attend Northeastern Junior College in Sterling to major in art and pursue a career as a tattoo artist. She received the Migrant Education Merit Scholarship.
