After a relatively quiet March and April, walk-in clinics and doctors' offices in Elizabethtown are busy once again.
At the Norton Immediate Care Center, at least two to three people are testing positive for COVID-19 each day.
"It is pretty discouraging when you start to see those numbers coming up. We're wondering what's this surge going to bring us?" nurse practitioner Jennifer Durling told WLKY Wednesday.
Across Kentucky, cases have gone up 62 percent in just a week. In Hardin County, it's 51 percent. The most recent data was collected Monday with the Lincoln Trail District Health Department reporting 57 new cases.

Health care professionals predict that number is higher because some are testing at home while others might not even realize they are sick.
"There are some patients with co-morbidities that have more severe symptoms but for the general population at this stage, we are seeing milder cases," Durling said.
And while most are experiencing those milder symptoms, some are sick enough to require a hospital stay.

"We've actually in the last couple weeks we had zero patients in the hospital. We have three positives in house now," Rita Pardee, RN, at Baptist Health Hardin said.
Pardee said it is important to keep your mask and guard up.
"We're still not out of this pandemic. Hopefully, we're on the downside but we're still not out of it," she said.
And while local and statewide numbers are troubling, doctors remain hopeful.
"The last two years COVID, has been pretty unpredictable but I do think with the milder symptoms that is occurring recently, I do think we have a good handle on it," Durling said.
