Tiny buildings designed to create big imaginations in Republic

These small structures will be part of a tiny village that will be located in Moore Park.

If you’ve been to the Republic Community Center lately, you’ve probably noticed four miniature-sized houses on the grounds behind the facility. These little buildings, small-scaled replicas of larger structures including a Lowe’s store, a barn, a house and a workshop, are part on an upcoming play village that is designed to inspire creative thought in young minds.
“The little houses were inspired by similar structures in different parks across the country,” said Jennafer Mayfield, interim public information officer for Republic. “Through research, Joanna Scott, recreation superintendent, developed a plan to bring this imagination playground to our parks system with the help of our park maintenance team and donations from Lowe’s of Republic. These little buildings provide an opportunity for young children to use their imagination while playing and enjoying the outdoors.”
Mayfield said the city’s park maintenance team built the houses using materials donated by Lowe’s, including lumber, paint and other materials valued at about $4,000.
“Lowe’s has been an incredible partner to the Parks and Recreation Department for many years, and we are grateful for their generous donation allowing us to push the fast-forward button on this project,” she said.

Headed to Moore Park
The houses will be set in Moore Park later this month and will be connected by a “pedal path” that will consist of already existing sections within the park.
“The pedal path allows young children to ride their balance bike or tricycle to each of the little houses, expanding on imaginative play,” Mayfield said.
Mayfield also added that more little structures could be added to the play village at a later time.
“Possible future buildings could include a police station, fire station, and additional local businesses,” she said.
For now, Mayfield said, the city looks forward to seeing kids enjoy the new play village after it is installed.
“We are excited for the possibility of future development of this tiny village and the memorable experiences they will create for the youngest members of our community,” she said.
